Sierra Leone is prone to climate-related disasters like fires, water shortages, floods and mudslides. According to the World Risk Index 2021, Sierra Leone rates 47th among 181 nations, recording high scores for vulnerability, susceptibility and lack of coping capacities.
In the framework of sustainable development, disaster risk reduction is an issue that cuts across multiple disciplines. CDRMSD includes activities that aim to reduce the risk of disasters and make people more resilient to natural disasters in different development sectors. This has a multiplier effect and is expected to speed up the achievements of the SDGs.
