Food Security
The objectives of the meetings are to: 1) Enhance Food Security through improved access to nutritious and sufficient food for vulnerable populations
2) increase awareness among rural populations on sustainable and responsible land management practices
Community meetings on Food Security and sustainable land governance were held. Rural growers were made to know that increase in production will increased availability, accessibility, and utilization of nutritious food for target households, leading to reduced levels of hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity. This may be evidenced by higher household food diversity, improved dietary intake, and enhanced resilience to food shocks and stresses. These meetings targeted both rights holders and duty bearers at community and district levels.
Advocacy on the Environment - Climate Change/Justice & Disaster Risk Reduction
The project aims to mitigate the impacts of climate change, such as erratic weather patterns, floods, and other environmental stresses, which threaten agricultural productivity, livelihoods, and food security for vulnerability communities. Also, the project aims to strengthen the resilience of communities through climate smart and market driven production for improved food and nutrition security
CDRMSD embarks of mass sensitization and awareness raising on the impact of climate change in vulnerable communities. Emphasis was laid on Improved management of natural resources, including land, water, and forests, leading to enhanced ecosystem health, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem services. This may involve the restoration of degraded landscapes, the protection of critical habitats, and the promotion of sustainable land-use practices that balance conservation and livelihood needs.
Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
The Community Based Disaster Management Committees (CBDMC) established is carrying out awareness raising on disaster prone areas. Through the disaster risk reduction initiatives, a systematic approach to identify, assess and reduce disaster risks is applied. It aims to minimize vulnerabilities and enhance resilience to natural and human-induced hazards, thereby reducing the negative impacts of disasters on communities, economies, and ecosystems and livelihoods.
Peace and Conflict Resolution
This is an ongoing initiative largely to foster community cohesion and to sustain the developmental gains in the communities. CDRMSD is using a comprehensive strategy that seeks out and resolves root causes of issues, encourages conversation, establishes trust, and cultivates collaboration among community members. In understanding the underlying root causes of disputes among community people CDRMSD always creates an open dialogue between and among disputing parties; it tries to identify a common ground (communities share lots of commonalities), tries to mediate in order to explore solutions, then the centre can mediate and finally formulate agreements. To a maximum degree, the above steps have helped in fostering and consolidating peace in communities. |
